Workbooks

Downloadable tools to help set the intention of the event.

Supporting collaborative thinking

The workbook process uses two sequential tools: the preparation workbook and the meet workbook. Together, they transition participants from individual reflection to collaborative thinking.

Why we use two workbooks

  • Individual preparation before the event increases readiness and deepens collaborative thinking.
  • Participants who have been reflecting on ideas on their own bring more substantive thinking to team discussions.
  • Revisiting ideas with others helps participants understand the scope of perspectives among the team and helps to broaden their understanding.

The preparation workbook is sent two weeks before the session. Participants are asked to reflect individually on the event's problem to be solved and capture their thoughts in their workbook. Completion takes approximately one hour and is mandatory to be invited to the in-person session.

Students will have one week to complete it, then the facilitation team takes one week to review the responses and provide feedback.

Implementation

Participants read the activity instructions and complete them with their team using tangible materials (whiteboard, sticky notes).

Once complete, the facilitation team will review the meeting workbooks and provide feedback.

Participants retain access to their completed work after the session.

Document work by photographing and uploading images to the workbook.

Evaluation of workbooks

After the students have completed their workbooks, they are invited to join the meeting. Before the meeting, trained students review the workbooks and provide feedback. There is flexibility with workbook evaluation or the use of workbooks altogether.
