How might we

Questions that invite exploration.

Asking open-ended questions

How might we is a design thinking technique used to reframe a challenge with open-ended, opportunity-driven questions.

Broken into three sections- “how,” “might,” and “we” in order to encourage collaboration within an action-oriented mindset.

The Zika virus

During a hackathon addressing the Zika virus, the professor reframed the problem by asking: What if we examined this from the mosquito's perspective?

This unconventional approach led to unexpected insights and solutions that traditional problem-solving might have missed. Sharing this story encourages students to move beyond obvious perspectives and imagine problems from the viewpoint of unexpected actors—a practice that often generates the most innovative and disruptive solutions.
