Keynote Speaker

Selecting the right keynote speaker is a critical piece to the day's activities because their presentation and conversation can significantly influence how students approach the challenge. It is important to choose speakers whose expertise is closely aligned with the core content of the topic. These keynotes should highlight the important dimensions of the challenge through their research, professional experience, unique perspective, or by providing context that helps inform the work during the event.

Speakers are invited a few months ahead of the event. Each keynote is given thirty minutes: 15 minutes for their presentation and 15 minutes for questions. When possible, select speakers whose expertise is directly aligned with the core content of the day’s topic over an adjacent field.

For example, if the challenge focuses on AI in education, prioritize an education expert over a technology expert. Technology experts can serve as valuable mentors; however, beginning with the risks of steering participants toward technological solutions before participants have grasped underlying educational challenges.

Starting with experts who understand the human, social, and contextual dimensions of the issue helps participants develop a deeper understanding of the problem before exploring potential solutions.
