Pitch
Share the impact
Transform presentations into professional milestones. Students pitch to industry leaders, nonprofits, and faculty who bring credibility and real-world perspective.
Designing a pitch day with impact
The pitch component transforms the competition from an internal exercise into a professional milestone. Students present their concepts to industry leaders and academic experts who bring credibility to the exercise.
Timeline dependent, pitch day can be scheduled anywhere between one to two weeks after the competition. For lighter projects, one week is recommended, as students remain more connected to their ideas. However, if submissions require coding or more complex development, two weeks is more appropriate. This allows one week for students to finalize their work and one week for the jury team to review submissions before the pitch day.
The process
Students will submit their work in advance of pitch day (3 days-1 week prior).
- Projects are summarized in a rubric for the judges
- Participants were given the judging criteria during the meeting for full transparency and to help students align with evaluation expectations
Each team has 6 minutes to present, broken down for focus:
- 2 minutes for presentation slides
- 2 minutes for a video demonstrating their prototype
- 2 minutes for feedback/questions
Judging panel consists of 4-5 individuals
- If the judges do not have expertise in a specific area (i.e. coding) a subject-matter expert (such as a coding reviewer) evaluates the technical components in advance to allow judges to focus their feedback on the concept and impact
Pitch session
The participants will attend a two-hour pitch session during which they will present their ideas to the panel of judges. In this session, they will articulate their problem framing, proposed solution, and anticipated impact.
