ASU 394: Transfer Success

Transferring to a new institution can be confusing; maybe overwhelming. Our unit offers transfer students the opportunity to get to know more about ASU and its resources through our transfer iCourse. Transfer students will work in a collaborative environment and participate in targeted activities that will build their confidence and ability to be academically successful and engaged with the ASU community.

What you'll learn

How to develop a sense of community with other transfer students:

Research shares that getting involved with like-minded people will boost your success levels. Build a network with others who are experiencing the same opportunities and enhance the outcomes.

How to choose different ways to overcome challenges:

Whether it is overcoming stress, setting goals, becoming aware of our mindset or challenging our emotional intelligence, this course offers opportunity to explore them all in assisting with barriers and challenging situations.

How to identify and locate campus resources that will aid in your success:

ASU offers so many opportunities to learn and grow it can be overwhelming. Experience these resources in a way that encourages their use and represents the power that support systems can offer.

How to advocate for yourself:

Communication is the key to success in a lot of ways. Overcoming intimidating situations, or just learning how or what to say in stressful times can involve practice. We utilize this opportunity to give you that practice in advocating for your rights, privileges and future.

  • Opportunities to meet in real time via Zoom with other transfer students through community building activities.
  • Online asynchronous discussions and collaborative learning.
  • Increased self-awareness through weekly self-reflection.
  • This course is offered in iCourse modality; therefore, added effort to become part of a “community” is important to a student’s success. Opportunities are provided to make this available to all students.
  • Each week/module is designed with progression of the transfer student in mind.
  • Students will arrange meetings with Advisors, Instructors, and visit resources on campus throughout the course.
  • This course is 7-weeks in length. (A-session only).

  • Activity: Map your daily activities to learn where your levels of productivity take place. Time management is a main tool for our success.
  • Activity: Create a “vision board” depicting your most important goals
  • Activity: Go on a weekly virtual scavenger hunt to explore ASU resources
  • Reflection: Become self-aware of your actions, emotions and behaviors and how they influence your success levels.
