Creating Value and Setting Intention

Why It Matters?

Learning is stronger when it is personally relevant and aligned with clear goals. The purpose of creating value and setting your intention is to make the content you are learning about relevant to you. Once you know why the information is important, it is necessary to set specific goals to achieve mastery.

How do I Create Value and Set Intention?

To create value, ask yourself how the content relates to your life or future ambitions. Set specific learning goals and track your progress using journals or goal-tracking apps. Regularly reassess these goals to ensure they remain aligned with your evolving interests. Some important tips to keep in mind:

  • Answer these questions to create value:
    • How can this content be useful/important to me?
    • Why is this content important in general?
    • Why are we/am I learning it this way?
    • What actions can I take after learning this content? How will it help me?
    • What can I apply to my life now or potentially in the future?
  • Set learning targets based on the time and content needed to learn:
    • Identify habits that will help you attain your goals and targets.
    • Plan your study times around your weekly priorities and schedule them in a calendar. Set reminders on your phone to keep you on track.
    • Track your progress through a journal, spreadsheet, or app.
  • Reflect on your learning
    • How have my interests or goals evolved since I began learning this topic or skill?
    • What new values or intentions have emerged in my learning?
