DONT use AI like this

Why It Matters?

AI tools are everywhere, and it’s easy to get confused about when it’s okay to use them. Using AI the wrong way can hurt your learning and lead to academic integrity issues. When used correctly, AI can help you understand prompts, organize your ideas, and feel more confident as you begin an assignment.

How do I Use the Principles for Learning?

Clarify the assignment. If a prompt feels confusing, ask AI to explain the instructions in simpler terms before you begin.
Brainstorm, then step away. Use it to generate ideas, but choose your own direction and write in your own words.
Check your understanding. After drafting your own thoughts, ask AI to point out areas that might need more detail.
Know your class policies. Some professors allow certain uses of AI; others don’t. Always check the syllabus first.

Try This:

  • Write down your rough thoughts for five minutes, then use AI to help expand or clarify your ideas, not replace them.
  • Review your course syllabus and ASU’s academic integrity expectations to make sure your use of AI aligns with the rules.
