ASU Cheerleaders and Sparky University College - Advising

Welcome to University College!

Congratulations on being admitted to ASU! Achieving your academic goals requires thoughtful preparation and hard work. You and your academic advisor will work together to create an academic plan that works for you.

You have been admitted to University College as an exploratory student. You have chosen one of the following exploratory major tracks:

All new freshmen are expected to attend an ASU Orientation program. For those students who live outside of Arizona, ASU offers orientation programs in cities around the country that may be convenient for you. Please know that attending an ASU orientation program is the most beneficial way to start your ASU experience. If none of our orientation programs work for you, you can speak to an academic advisor over the phone to discuss course planning. Before setting up a phone appointment, you will need to make sure you have completed the freshman pre-advising homework. To set up a phone advising appointment, call:

Things to do before attending ASU orientation:

  • Admissions - Make sure that you have been accepted to ASU.
  • Immunizations - ASU requires proof of immunizations in order to enroll in courses.
  • Unified math placement exam - The score you earn on this exam determines what math you are eligible to take. All students need to complete this exam.
  • Calculus readiness exam - This exam is required for students who need to register for certain levels of calculus. It is only offered in person and you must sign up in advance. The exam will also be available on the morning of most orientation programs, prior to orientation starting.
  • English composition placement - If you have taken the SAT or ACT exam, your English course will be determined by your test score. If you have not taken one of these exams, you can take a placement exam in person.
  • Foreign language exam - A foreign language is not required for all majors. However, if you want to enroll in Spanish, French, or German and have some knowledge of the language, you will need to take the online exam.
  • eAdvisor two-minute tutorial - eAdvisor is ASU's electronic advising and degree tracking system. Complete this tutorial to help you understand eAdvisor. This will be critical to your advising at orientation.
  • Explore majors - Do you want to know what classes you would need for a particular major? Do you want to see what degrees ASU offers? Check out this site before orientation to get ideas on majors you may want to explore.
